A CANCER patient has called for pharmacies in Harwich to open on Sundays.
The town has four chemists but none open on a Sunday and only two are open on a Saturday.
People needing a prescription or advice have to travel all the way to Clacton or Frinton which have pharmacies open at the weekend.
Patricia Bretton, of Little Oakley, fears some patients could be left to suffer over the weekend if they can’t travel to get a prescription.
She said: “We have four chemists here – you think one of them would be able to open?”
Carolyn Larsen, Head of Primary Care (Essex) at NHS England said: “The Essex area team are undertaking a review of pharmaceutical services across Essex and Harwich will form part of this review.
“Provision is greatly reduced on a Sunday in all areas due to much lower demand but the review will be looking at supply and the need for Sunday services with consideration given to the move towards seven day working.”
