A VILLAGE pub will be transformed into Heartbreak Hotel for one night only.

The Maybush Inn, Great Oakley is hosting an Elvis Presley themed open-mic night on Friday August 15 at 7pm, with a special guest judge.

Brian Lee – a former Elvis tribute artist who has even performed at the London Palladium to pay homage to his idol – now lives in a Lime Trees care home in the village and will be judging the contest.

Mr Lee has not been able to perform since a massive stroke in 1999, but still remains a huge fan of the King and will be crowning a new one at the event next month.

Landlord Eamonn Chambers is hoping plenty of wannabe artists lace up their blue suede shoes to compete for a £100 prize.

“Brian has lived in the area for about ten months now and even though he can no longer perform he still loves Elvis and listens to him all the time.

“I often visit him and his room is absolutely full of Elvis merchandise.

“We were just chatting one day and we had this plan to put on a open-mic night and I thought it was good idea.

“Entry will be free and there will be a cash prize but we are asking people who do compete to dress up.”
