Halstead: Jobs push for redundant sites

Villagers are still waiting for news about the redevelopment of a redundant factory and dairy, which have been empty for years.

Premdor in Swan Street, Sible Hedingham, closed in September 2009 after 110 years, leaving 86 people jobless.

And the Tanner Foods dairy in Oxford Lane, which had been based in the village since 1941, has been shut since 2006.

A Braintree Council spokesman said: “The position regarding Premdor is that the council is currently awaiting further proposals for the Premdor site, which will be considered in terms of viability.”

The council’s Local Development Framework Panel agreed in December to allocate Tanners Dairy for business and leisure use, which was supported by parish councillors.
