Halstead: "Tosser" campaign upsets ex-councillor

A cheeky anti-litter slogan is “pandering to yob culture”, according to an ex-councillor.

Braintree Council’s close to the mark campaign slogan ‘Don’t be a tosser’ has won praise from many Halstead residents.

It has been described as a hard-hitting headline by the council and will be displayed on bus stops, refuse vehicles and at petrol stations.

But former Braintree Tory councillor Jennifer Smith has voiced her disapproval at the use of the word tosser.

Mrs Smith of Swan Street, Sible Hedingham, said: “To me it is a word that can cause aggression and one of several I have strongly discouraged my children and grandchildren using."
