A school is celebrating after maintaining its good rating, the second highest score, after an Ofsted inspection.

Wethersfield Primary School, in Silver Street, was praised for its good quality education and above average standards.

Inspectors also found staff and governors were promoting the safety and wellbeing of all pupils effectively.

The report said: “The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education since the last inspection.

"Standards are above average and pupils are making good progress because of good teaching.

“Parents, pupils and staff agree that pupils’ behaviour is very good.

“Pupils’ attendance is above average, they enjoy coming to school and have good attitudes to learning.

“Governors are providing good support and challenge to the school through regular visits.

“They have a realistic view of the quality of teaching and its impact on pupils’ learning and progress.”

To improve, inspectors said teachers should introduce the new scheme of maths at Key Stage Two to enable pupils to make good progress.

A subject leader for English should also be appointed as soon as possible to maintain and improve the good progress of pupils.

Headteacher Caroline Shingleton said: “I am delighted with the outcome of our recent Ofsted which continues to judge the school as good and recognises the warm, friendly, family atmosphere based on our strong ethos and values, as well as above average standards.

“The importance of children, parents, staff and governors working together as a team, for the benefit of the whole school community is reflected in this report.

“Everyone at Wethersfield has a right to be extremely proud.”
