A BARBER has handed over her scissors and braved a head shave for charity.

Natasha Pachent, who owns the Swan Street Barber Shop in Sible Hedingham, faced more than 40 pairs of hands as they snipped away at her hair.

She and her boyfriend Trev Lawrence held the charity event at the barbers in aid of Macmillan, after seeing a Brave the Shave advert on TV.

Miss Pachent, 42, from Hawkwood Road, said: "The amount of hair that came off was unbelievable, I have no hair left at all so it was very drastic.

"I do feel sorry for anybody with no hair, especially a woman, it's quite a hard thing to do even with short hair."

As a barber she cut her boyfriends' hair, but the tables turned when it came to her big chop.

She said: "When it came to getting mine done everyone was cutting chunks out. About 40 people turned up and everybody was having a go, it was really good and everyone was laughing."

As well as the head shave the couple had a raffle and sold cakes and popcorn to raise money.

So far they have raised just over £1,000.

Miss Pachent said: "We have both lost quite a few friends and family members so we decided we wanted to give something back.

"My boyfriend's old boss is really ill in a hospice so it was mixture of reasons why we did it."

The barber shop opened at the end of May and lots of customers she has befriended over the summer came to watch her brave shave.

The event took place on Sunday, August 7.
