A popular receptionist is leaving after 29 years of involvement at a primary school.

Maureen White, of Halstead, first started volunteering at St Andrew’s Primary School, in Halstead, in 1986.

She became a governor in 1991 and held the position for five years, before becoming the school’s office administrator and later the office manager.

“I can honestly say that I never ever had a day when I didn’t want to come into work,” she said.

“I have really enjoyed working here, and I will miss my colleagues, friends and the children.

“My favourite part of the job is watching the children arrive as babies, but leave as young adults.

“I’m not leaving to do nothing as I will be helping my daughter who has just started a nursery at The Barn Nursery School in Greenstead Green.”

Headteacher Bridgette Gough said: “The school was sad to say goodbye to Maureen White on Tuesday after working with the school for almost 30 years in many capacities at St. Andrew's.

“Mrs White joined us for morning celebration where we were able to all send her our very best wishes for her retirement.

“We hope she will enjoy her many gifts and reading the children’s messages while putting her feet up for a well-earned rest.

“Parents, pupils and staff were all keen to say thank you to Mrs White for all she has done for us all over the years.

“Nothing was ever too much trouble for her and she will be sorely missed.”

Mrs White will be replaced by Jackie Lawman.
