A children's club might have to fold unless new members can be found.

The 1st Halstead Brownie Unit, which can trace its origins in the town back to 1917, is on the look-out for more girls to join.

The unit meets weekly and takes part in a number of fun activities, including learning new hobbies, playing music, exploring other cultures and arts and crafts.

There are also special events such as day trips, sleepovers, camps and holidays to get involved with.

Girls can also extend their knowledge and abilities by working towards Brownie interest badges covering many different hobbies and activities from science investigator to circus skills.

Linda Hilton, who runs the Brownie pack, said: “We are struggling to attract girls to our unit.

“For some reason girls would rather go to Cubs, which is very upsetting as Brownies was set up just for girls for them to develop into independent young ladies.

“I don’t think we are doing anything wrong and I now have a wonderful team of helpers to encourage and help the girls.

“We have fun, we go camping, we learn, and make things.

“If we don’t get more girls to come we will have to close which would be a real shame as we are the oldest unit in Halstead.”

Brownies is open to girls between the ages of seven and ten.
