An exhibition has been held into a proposed development in Halstead.

Bellway Homes held the public display for local residents and businesses to view their proposals for the redevelopment of the Central Park site, off Colchester Road.

Firm Central Piling, which is operating from the site, is moving to the Bluebridge Industrial Estate, off the same road.

Bellway has been working together with Braintree Council on plans for the site, and presented the proposals to the public at Queen’s Hall, in Halstead, yesterday.

Braintree Council identified the site as being suitable for residential development as part of its draft Site Allocations and Development Management Plan in 2014.

The proposals include 104 new homes, consisting of a mix of one to four bedroom properties, including flats and family houses.

A proportion of these homes will be affordable housing.

As part of the proposals, Bellway will create a new children’s play area within the area of young woodland to the south of the public open space on Bullfinch Drive.

A new publicly accessible seating area and informal loop path down to the riverbank within the site will provide new views across the river and up the Colne Valley.

This will allow residents and visitors to enjoy the peace and quiet of the riverbank.

A spokesperson for Bellway Homes said: “We are delighted to display our proposals for the Central Piling site, which will help to meet the local housing need by regenerating a brownfield site.

“The site will not only provide much needed new homes, but also an exciting new play area for the community and improvements to the River Walk.

“We were delighted that residents were able to come and give us their views on our proposals.

“We will now be finalising our plans ahead of submitting the planning application later this month.”
