Walkers trying to use a Halstead alleyway are getting stung in the process.

The footpath which connects Mount Pleasant and Ramsey Road has become very overgrown, with stinging nettles along one side making it difficult to walk through the narrow pathway.

Vanessa Johnson, 49, of Ramsey Road, said the walkway is used a lot by children going to Ramsey Park.

The manageress said: “I am not so concerned for myself, but for mums with prams or young children on bikes who are a bit wobbly and might fall into the nettles.

“It’s in more than a bit of a state.

“It’s got awful.

“Halstead in Bloom do a brilliant job on the rest of Halstead, but I don’t think they have ever come here.

“It should be looked after, either by them or the council.

“It hasn’t been done in a while.”

Mum Tracey Corke, of Mount Pleasant, added: “I went down that alley with a buggy on Thursday and it was terrible.

“What with trying to dodge the stinging nettles, dog mess and people's spit, it was an obstacle course.”
