A foal which captured the nation’s heart has won a top competition.
Tiny foal Gizmo captured the nation’s hearts after he was found abandoned near Ridgewell Caravan Park, in Yeldham Road, in February.
He was taken in by Catley Cross Vets, based in Wickham St Paul, and nursed back to health, helped by more than £20,000 donated by kindhearted people.
He is now flourishing and has been officially adopted by the vets so he will be with them for the rest of his life.
On Saturday, he was crowned PRP Horsebox Rescue/RSPCA Rescue Pony Of The Year at Equifest, one of the country’s biggest equine events held in Peterborough.
Carolyn Wyse, veterinary surgeon at Catley Cross, said she couldn’t be prouder of Gizmo.
She added: “I have never known a foal like Gizmo before - he’s become almost human."
