A beach hut which serves to remember a brave little girl has sadly missed out on winning a national competition.

The Daisy Hut, in Walton, was bought by the family of seven-year-old Daisy Brooks who died from a brain tumour in May.

She used to love visiting the seaside and the family bought a beach hut there.

Now, the beach hut, as well as two others her parents Louis and Anna bought, is rented out to families and a percentage of the hire charge is donated to the Funding Neuro charity.

The yellow beach hut, painted in Daisy’s favourite colour yellow, had been picked to be in the Beach Hut of the Year competition.

However, a vintage beach hut on Mersea Island was crowned the winner.

Phil Spencer, co-presenter of Channel 4’s Location, Location, Location and one of the competition’s judges, said: “It was an immensely difficult decision to select this year’s winner among the incredible array of entries and fantastic designs.

“However, Betty was chosen for its beautiful décor and its admirable contribution to the local community which made it a stand out hut for us.”
