The wheels have been put in motion for youngsters to get on their bikes this summer.

Not only is the Aviva Women’s Tour passing through Halstead, but Year Three pupils at Richard de Clare Community Primary School, Parsonage Street, were also inspired with a cycling workshop.

Braintree-based BMX racer Julian Allen encouraged the children to have a go at cycling through a one-hour workshop at the school on Friday.

Julian is an ex-British BMX Champion and has competed up to World Championship level for 30 years.

Headteacher Sarah Donnelly said: “They were split into two groups and learnt some things and then played some games including limbo.

“The children loved it.

“Some of them were practicing cycling on the week leading up to it.

“I hope it gave them the opportunity to try a sport they might not have otherwise discovered.”
