When Iris and Arthur Hunt got married, the Second World War was still raging, Winston Churchill was Prime Minister and Harry Truman was President of the United States of America.
Iris, nee Sage, 93, and Arthur, 94, Hunt met in 1945.
“I was having a drink one night in the Nags Head in Halstead,” Arthur, a former carpenter, said.
“I saw Iris across the bar and it carried on from there.”
The Nags Head used to be in New Street - previously known as The Victoria - but is now a house.
The couple, who both like cats and used to smoke, married shortly afterward this first meeting on May 5, 1945 at Holy Trinity Church, in Halstead.
They lived most of their 70 years together in Halstead - mainly living in Trinity Street.
