More details have been announced for the May Bank holiday celebrations in Halstead.

The Friends of Halstead Public Gardens is hosting the free event which will see more than 20 stalls and lots of fun things to do.

One of the organisers Wendy Pickess said: “The germ of an idea was formed that we should host a May Day event that would revive the Maypole dancing from the jubilee celebrations in 2012.

“We also wanted it to be an occasion which brought the whole community together, so you would bump into friends, old and new.

“To do this we have tried to include as many local clubs and organisations as possible to run a stall or a stand, many interactive and providing hands-on activities.”

The afternoon will commence at 2pm on May 4 when the May Queen - due to be announced next week - will arrive in her carriage.

Once the event has been officially opened the children are invited to parade around on the Dancing Green dressed as a nursery rhyme character or as a nursery rhyme.

A boy and girl will be selected as the winners to receive a prize, but everyone entering will receive a treat.

Two local primary schools will also be performing Maypole dances, with everyone else encouraged to get involved later on in the day.

Ramsey Academy will be providing music from the bandstand and classic cars will also be on display in the picnic area.

The afternoon will finish at about 4.30pm.
