Plans to build 300 new homes on the edge of Halstead have been flooded with objections from concerned and angry residents.

Since Gladman Developments submitted their proposals to bring 292 houses, a convenience store, children’s play area and a public open space on land next to Oak Road in December, up to 20 residents have sent objection letters to Braintree Council.

Ten letters were sent in just three days.

Residents’ worries include how the development will impact on local school provision, the doctor’s surgery and infrastructure, including shops and roads.

John Eaves, also of Oak Road, wrote: “Schooling is a major concern in Halstead with Holy Trinity Primary School having double the applications to places last year.

“How can a housing development be approved when the town amenities are already failing?”
