An appeal has been lodged to overturn the refusal to grant permission for three yurts to be built on a farm.

Landowners Mr and Mrs Lock applied in March for permission to build the yurts - a type of large, circular tent - on their farm in Brickhouse Road, Colne Engaine.

The yurts - which would measure 4.9m in diameter and have a maximum height of 2.8m - would be built on a concrete base and would only be available for the six warmer months every year.

The would be marketed mainly for tourists to use.

The application also includes plans for an ancillary utility building which would house a kitchen and toilets and two people would have been employed part time.

There were 24 objections to the plans and their request was turned down by Braintree Council in June.

The couple lodged an appeal against this decision in December.

They had applied in December 2013 to have six yurts on the site, but withdrew this application in January last year before a decision was reached.

Their agent, Joseph Greenhow, of Joseph Greenhow Planning Ltd, declined to comment on the appeal.
