There is something a bit different about these spooky pumpkins.

Rather than grow the vegetables from seed, young gardeners at Ramsey Academy in Colne Road, Halstead, made 52 from recycled wooden pallets.

Steve Pittuck, an art and design technology technician who runs the school gardening club, said: "They are in the American Primitive style.

"The offcuts of wood are to be sold as kindling.

"The members did market research, product design, pricing, production line fabrication and painting, and marketing."

Money from the kindling will go towards spades, forks, hoes and rakes.

Anyone who can donate old tools and plant pots to the children, or would like to help during lunchtimes, can contact the school on 01787 472481.
