Essex residents are being advised to travel carefully this weekend as temperatures look set to fall, bringing the possibility of ice and snow across the county.
Motorists will now be able to track the Essex Highways gritting lorries online, via a new live tracking system available at www.essex.gov.uk/highways. Residents can also receive the latest gritting updates by following @Essex_Travel on Twitter.
County Councillor Derrick Louis, Cabinet Member for Highways & Transportation said: “With temperatures set to tumble this weekend I am urging motorists to travel with extra caution, and make sure their vehicles are ready for winter. We are constantly monitoring weather forecasts, and our fleet of gritting lorries are ready to mobilise as soon as they are needed.”
Essex Highways will be keeping all major routes clear. This includes all ‘A’ and ‘B’ roads, access routes for emergency services, rural link roads and major public transport routes.
