A road safety group in Essex has been highly commended at a national transport award ceremony.

The Essex Casualty Reduction Board was recognised for its work on road safety, which has led to one of the biggest falls in road accidents recorded in a county in recent years.

It was rated as highly commended in the Road Safety, Traffic Management and Enforcement Award ceremony.

The National Transport Awards took place in London and were attended by Secretary of State for Transport, Ruth Kelly MP.

Last year, Essex saw the number of people killed or seriously injured on the roads reduced to the lowest number ever recorded - 884.
