Essex: set to put the Brake on speed

SPEEDING in Essex communities will be discussed at a national road safety conference today.

Adam Pipe, operational performance manager for Essex Police, will speak at the conference, run by road safety charity Brake, in London.

Mr Pipe will discuss how neighbourhood policing, through neighbourhood action panels, has identified speeding is one of the biggest concerns for Essex communities.

"It is the issue that means the most to people," he said.

Essex Police has produced a four-minute film to be shown on the internet and at the conference.

Mr Pipe said: "The film has been designed to capture everything we do to change people's driving behaviour.

"It shows the diverse roads we cover, from busy strategic main roads to those in the village environment.

"Many groups and people work together to tackle speed enforcement including county council's road safety officers, road policing officers, the mobile unit, community speed watch and local neighbourhood policing officers.

"It also shows the work we do with schools. Allowing young people to deliver our message to drivers is an effective way to get our message across."

The video will be available to view online at essexpolice.org from tomorrow.

I think Essex police do a good job now in stopping speeding motorists.

You only have to look at the regular gridlock on the A12, usually caused by a minor shunt, but all too often this is turned into a major incident by the police, who just love to close the road for hours on end, without a care for motorists.
