Police are appealing for witnesses after a fatal accident closed the A120 towards Harwich today.
A Dutch male lorry driver, 55, died when the accident happened at the junction with the A133 on the eastbound carriageway just after 5am.
The articulated lorry was returning towards Harwich Port when it left the carraigeway on the nearside and collided with a crash barrier.
It was the only vehicle involved.
Officers from Stanway road policing unit were first at the scene and blocked the road.
The road was closed Harwich-bound between the A133 roundabout at Frating and the B1025 turn-off at Horsley Cross for five hours.
The driver was taken to Colchester General Hospital where he was declared dead.
The lorry was removed from the scene and the debris was cleared away.
Anyone with information should contact Stanway road policing unit on 01206 762512.

if the guy had just nodded off, he wouldnt have died, the lorry isnt that badly damaged and it's only damage there is, is lower than where the guy would be. It's more likely to be fallen ill at the wheel.

Surely the unfortunate driver did not die of his injuries. The damage to the lorry is below were the driver would be seated. He has got to have had a heart attack or similar whilst driving! Sorry for the driver though. Hope his family is OK.
