Oil thieves have struck at least twice in Dedham, triggering a Neighbourhood Watch warning to residents.
The village homes rely on oil-fired central heating, running from a large oil tank kept outside the rear of the property.
A woman discovered on Tuesday that someone had siphoned off about 700 litres of oil, worth about £300, from her tank in her garden in Stratford Road, Dedham.

She had a delivery of 900 litres in December, but a few weeks ago realised the tank was empty. When the suppliers arrived to refill the tank, they discovered the majority of the oil had been stolen.
One of the village's Neighbourhood Watch coordinators, Brian Hindley, said this was not the first reported incident of its type.
The first theft, reported to police a few weeks ago, prompted him to send letters to residents, alerting them to the problem.
