Concerns were raised that Mersea residents could find themselves overlooking a nuclear power station being taken down, another being built and a wind farm.
The view across to the Blackwater Estuary to Bradwell, a favoured location for one of a possible new generation of nuclear power stations, was discussed by West Mersea Town Council last night.
Peter Clements said he supported nuclear power, but raised fears that the Dengie Peninsula would be taken over by power generating sites, with planning permission already granted for 12 wind turbines at Bradwell.
"We could have one power station being taken down, one being built and 12 windmills there," he said.
Noelle Urquhart said wind turbines were easier to take down than it was to decommision a nuclear power station.
Sylvia Wargent, the council's representative on the power station's local community liaison committee, said that "no definite decision had been made" on building another nuclear facility and decomissioning work was continuing.
