UPDATED: Two cut free after Colchester crash

FIREFIGHTERS had to cut free two people trapped following a car crash close to Colchester Zoo.
 

Police, fire crews and paramedics were called to Maldon Road at about 3.30pm yesterday.


A red Ford Fiesta and grey Volkswagen Golf collided blocking the junction between Warren Lane and Maldon Road.
 

A woman was taken to Colchester General Hospital with suspected neck and back injuries but they were not thought to be serious.

I was there just after it happened and I think it will take a fatality before Essex Highways improve that junction or even better make it a roundabout. I hope both the people hurt make a full recovery.

Totally agree! The southern section of the western approach road to bypass (part) of warren lane should terminate in a new roundabout/road layout at this dangerous junction. As this won't happen due to planning short sightedness (will terminate somewhere around dyers road area), then urgent consideration needs to be given to immediately improve this junction

I am one of the victims involved in the crash (ford fiesta) and I am happy to say that I have no lasting injuries. Still have back pain and my husband has also had problems with his back. I agree with your comments. The road is clearly a hazard to drivers and it makes me feel sick to think that it couldn't have been a lot worse. Instead of wasting money on company breaks and functions, they should use it to improve road safety.
