Sea and air search launched for overdue canoe

A HELICOPTER and lifeboat were called out after two men in a canoe lost track of time in Mersea.

The RAF rescue helicopter and West Mersea RNLI inshore lifeboat were scrambled at about 2.30pm on Sunday.

A worried caller had told the coastguard they were late back and concerns were raised about their safety.

However a 59-year-old man and 11-year-old boy were soon found safe and well and were unaware they were late or that any search was taking place.
