COLCHESTER Council wants your view on a strategy drawn up to tackle irresponsible dog owners.
The authority wants to cut fouling, noise nuisance, dog attacks and road accidents caused by strays.
It wants the public to have its say on its Responsible Dog Ownership strategy.
Martin Hunt, councillor responsible for street and waste services, said: “At the heart of this strategy is a desire to improve our streets and local environment.
“We want to promote and encourage positive dog ownership while also tackling those antisocial behaviours that all too often give dogs a bad name.”
The council says the idea behind the strategy is to target the small minority of owners whose behaviour irresponsible, antisocial” or criminal.
Another aim is to promote the welfare of dogs and to ensure that strays are reunited with their owners or rehomed quickly.
The consultation starts today and runs until May.
