BEAN counters are happy after Essex coffee mornings raised more than £300,000 for charity.

Each year Macmillan Cancer Support holds a world-record attempt to hold the largest simultaneous coffee morning.

Last year’s event, in 2011, raised £10 million with Essex coffee drinkers raising £313,134.47 - up 11 per cent on the previous year.

There were 1,924 events across the county.
