FOUR villages are to get a dedicated emergency first aid group to provide potentially life-saving back-up to paramedics.
Volunteers will meet next week to set up the first responders unit for Mount Bures, Bures, Wormingford and Lamarsh.
The area is currently covered by the Chappel and Wakes Colne first responders branch, whose members are trained to use defibrilator machines on heart patients and are regularly sent on 999 calls by the East of England Ambulance Service.
Co-ordinators want to split the areas in two to allow quicker reaction times and are looking for recruits to join the new group, along with existing members from the four villages.
The volunteers take it in turns to be on call so the burden will be spread more widely if newcomers sign up at the meeting at 7.30pm on Thursday, at the Thatchers Arms pub in Mount Bures.
