POLICE have been called in after several thefts at a Colchester school.
There have been three reported incidents at Colchester High School, in Wellesley Road, in the past month.
A concerned parent contacted the Gazette claiming “thousands of pounds” worth of personal items have been stolen from staff and pupils.
This has been disputed by the school, but it has confirmed there had been a “small number” of incidents concerning pupils.
Headteacher David Young said: “In the past month, three pupils have had items stolen.
“Thefts are very unusual at our school and it is being taken very seriously.
“We have launched a full investigation and the police are involved.”
Mr Young said a reminder about pupils’ valuables had been sent to all parents via the school newsletter.
“Pupils who bring in items of value, such as mobile phones, must leave them in the school office,” he added.
Heather Watts, a spokeswoman for Essex Police, confirmed they had been called to deal with a minor incident involving the Theft of an iPod from the school on March 5.
