A DRINK driver who smashed a stolen car into another vehicle has had his sentence delayed again.

Charlie Provan was driving a red Volkswagen Golf which smashed into a Fiat 500 which was parked at The Strood because of a high tide.

Provan had taken the car from a friend without permission while they were on a night out in Colchester town centre.

After the smash, which caused bad damage to both cars and surrounding barriers, Provan tried to get away but was caught quickly by the emergency services.

Provan, 22, admitted a string of charges - aggravated vehicle taking, driving without a licence or insurance, failing to stop after an accident, obstructing a police officer, driving while unfit through drink and without due care and attention following the incident just after 3am on Sunday, April 30.

He was due to be sentenced in January but the hearing was deferred as Provan was due to undertake a 12 session therapy programme which is still to be completed because of bad weather and staff shortages.

At a short hearing on Monday at Chelmsford Crown Court, Judge Patricia Lynch QC deferred sentencing again until June for Provan, of Firs Road, West Mersea, to complete the course and for compensation orders in relation to the damaged cars to be finalised.
