A DISQUALIFIED driver who was found driving a relative’s vehicle along the A12 in Marks Tey has been jailed.

Barry Hunter, 44, of Boundary Drive, Hutton, was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison when he appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Monday, April 16, charged with driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

He was also ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge and was banned from driving for a further two years.

Hunter was stopped by police driving a mobility vehicle at around 4.20pm on Monday, February 20, last year.

He had been previously banded from driving up until August 7 this year.

He was then interviewed at the roadside and reported for the offence. The car was seized by police.

Investigating officer PC Alan Marks, of Stanway Roads Policing Unit, said: “Hunter showed complete disregard for his disqualification and the sentence handed to him.

“It was only a matter of time until he was caught driving and he was found driving his family member’s car along a busy road.

“Hunter has been banned further and will now spend time locked in a prison cell.”
