A TEENAGER has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash.

The smash happened shortly before 8.30am in Fingringhoe Road in Rowhedge and involved a blue Seat Leon and a green and grey Mercedes.

A 17-year-old boy - who was the passenger in the Mercedes - has been taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge with life threatening injuries.

Fire crews cut him out of the car and he was flown to hospital in an air ambulance.

The driver of the Seat, a 22-year-old man, suffered leg injuries and has been taken to Colchester General Hospital.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service Trust said: "Two ambulances, and ambulance officer and the air ambulance from Essex and Herts Air Ambulance attended.

"One patient, believed to be a male teenager, was cut free of the vehicle and is believed to have suffered serious injuries and is in a critical condition.

"He has been flown to Addenbrooke’s Hospital by air ambulance. A second patient, a man in his 30s, suffered a leg injury and has been taken to Colchester General Hospital."

The road is closed while initial investigations are conducted.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Motorists are reminded to be careful on the roads this morning due to the low temperatures overnight which have caused some roads to be icy following the snow at the weekend."

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101.
