ATTRACTIONS and businesses across Colchester are preparing for a scorching weekend as punters prepare to hit the town and soak up the sun.

After an unpredictable few weeks of weather, the mercury could hit as high as 26C in Colchester tomorrow.

The good weather will be welcomed by traders and landlords over the bank holiday weekend following the washout during the Easter holidays.

Mark Teuten, general manager at The Kings Arms, in Crouch Street, said the pub’s extensive beer garden is always packed to bursting with punters when the sun comes out.

He is braced for a hugely busy weekend of trade.

He said: “We certainly see the pub absolutely packed when the sun comes out and we are expecting big numbers this weekend.

“We are looking forward to a hot weekend and would welcome some new faces.

“The pub has a lovely beer garden and we have our usual hog roast on bank holiday Monday.

“It is great for pubs and trade in Colchester when the sun is out and we hope plenty of people will join us.”

Annie Feltham, Colchester councillor responsible for commercial services, said: “With some glorious summer weather expected, there are some great events and attractions for residents and visitors to enjoy, both indoors and out, over this bank holiday weekend.

“Why not make the most of the sunshine and enjoy some of Colchester’s beautiful green spaces, including High Woods Country Park and our award-winning Castle Park, which plays host to three fantastic events this weekend: Minibeasts with Colchester Zoo; the Sound of Colchester Festival; and the Hospital Radio Family Fun Day.

“While you’re in the vicinity, Colchester Castle, Hollytrees Museum and the Natural History Museum are really worth a visit too.

“Anyone fascinated by local history will find more than enough to interest them on a walking tour of the town, starting from the Visitor Information Centre at 11am and 2pm on Saturday and Bank Holiday Monday respectively.

“Further afield, the Mersea Island Food and Drink Festival takes place on Sunday and Monday, celebrating a rich variety of taste-experiences.”

The Met Office has predicted the warm weather will stay with us across the country over the weekend, but will turn unsettled after.
