James Cleverly, MP for Braintree, has paid tribute to PC Keith Palmer who was killed in the terrorist attack in Westminster.
The MP served with PC Palmer in the Royal Artillery and has known him for 25 years.
Speaking in the House of Commons this morning, Mr Cleverly gave an emotional tribute and called for a posthumous recognition.
He said: “Whilst our hearts go to all those people who were wounded and murdered yesterday and to all the people who sought to help them, I would like to turn to PC Keith Palmer who I first met 25 years ago as Gunner Keith Palmer at Headquarters Battery 100 Regiment Royal Artillery.
“He was a strong professional public servant and it was a delight to meet him here again only a few months after being elected.
“Would my right honourable friend the Prime Minister, in recognition of the work that he did and the other police officers and public servants here in the house, consider recognising his gallantry and sacrifice formally with a posthumous recognition.”
The Prime Minister said the issue is one which will be considered in due course.
I've known Keith for 25 years. We served together in the Royal Artillery before he became a copper. A lovely man, a friend. I'm heartbroken. https://t.co/LgF4rQ7Vmg

My thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of PC Keith Palmer. A brave man.
