A BREEDER from Burnham was interviewed on national television about people getting the best dog for them.

Steve Jennings, who co-owns The Dog Salon in Burnham high street, appeared on ITV’s This Morning on Wednesday with his West Highland White Terrier Andy.

Mr Jennings was interviewed alongside other dog owners by host Eamon Holmes in a segment about which breed of dog is most suited to certain families in order to help audiences and potential owners decide on what type of dog they should get.

During the segment, Eamon Holmes asked if the terriers were for people with a more sedate lifestyle. Steve replied: “Not necessarily, you can walk them ten miles or ten yards have them running all over the fields and countryside, or have them rest up on the sofa.

“They’re an extremely big dog in a small body.”

Steve has run The Dog Salon for a number of years and has been breeding West Highland Terriers for more than 20 years.

He said: “As I’m part of the West Highland White Terrier Club, the Kennel Club reached out to us to arrange owners of different dog breeds to feature on the segment about what the breeds are like and how they need looking after.

“It’s always nice to get some publicity and be recognised by these shows, but the importance of it was about the breeds and the dogs themselves, making sure that when people think about getting dogs they know which breed is right for them and their family, and how to maintain their health.”

Steve is no stranger to appearing on TV shows, having previously featured on the BBC when attending the dog show Crufts several years ago.

He added: “It’s nice for the club to keep offering us these chances, the terriers are wonderful dogs, and it’s just as important for any prospective dog owners to learn about the breeds before getting one.”
