FORMER Colchester MP Sir Bob Russell has donated more than £200 to a charity which means it can continue to provide cooked breakfasts for the homeless.

Sir Bob donated £230 which he raised by holding an annual New Year's Day walk in Colchester.

The former Lib Dem MP handed over the money to homeless charity GO4 Enterprises' Pete Hope and the group's catering manager, Pepi Sanchez.

Mr Hope said: "It's such a kind thing to do and he didn't have to do it.

"It was a really nice touch."

"It is great news for us and we will use it to keep providing breakfasts into April."

Mr Hope also said the social enterprise is in "ongoing dialogue" with Colchester Council over potentially staying at Holy Trinity Church, despite giving notice to leave the historic building last year.

He added: "We're examining ways that would keep us situated at Holy Trinity Church."
