AN MP has called for her constituents to have their say on the future of health care provision in North Essex.

Priti Patel, MP for Witham, has responded to the Urgent Care Review by the North East Essex Clinical Commissioning Group (NEECCG), making the case for more effective use of the walk-in centre in Colchester.

The plans that the NEECCG are considering could diminish the role of the walk-in centre, with few services being run for the location.

Ms Patel said: "The Walk-In Centre in Colchester is highly regarded by patients and the community it serves, who are very disappointed with the threat from NEECCG to close this facility.

"The facility treats people who have minor injuries and illnesses without appointment, helping to relieve the pressures on the Hospital’s already stretched A&E Department.

"My constituents and Patient Participation Groups tell me that it is becoming increasingly difficult to book an appointment to see a GP.

"The Hospital is telling me that as much as 30% of patients presenting themselves to A&E could be seen by a GP or a nurse practitioner.

"It would be a shame for this facility to close when the capacity could be used much more wisely by fully integrating health and social care services, therefore improving patient pathways.

"I strongly encourage all those who live in the community, and use these services, to contact the CCG with their views.”
