A BURGLAR pushed past a man in his 80s during a raid on his home in Clacton.

The victim was disturbed by a man knocking on the window of his property in Woodlands Close at around 5.30pm yesterday.

The victim told the man to go to the front door at which point the man said there had been a number of break-ins in the area.

A spokesman for Essex Police added: "The suspect entered the property and walked around before leaving.

"He returned 10 minutes later and gained entry to the property via a rear window but was challenged by the victim.

"The man pushed passed him, went into a bedroom and took a locked grey safety box before making off."

Officers are also urging residents to be wary of bogus callers.

The spokesman added: "If someone you don’t know knocks at your door always ask for identification – all genuine callers will have ID and won’t mind you asking to see it.

"If you’re still not sure, ask them to come back another time and don’t feel pressured into letting someone into your home you don’t want them there."
