A LORRY driver has appeared in court charged with six counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a horror bus crash.
Philip Last, of Northgate Street, Great Yarmouth, was driving a Daf Low Loader which was carrying a steam engine which fell off the trailer and onto a bus on East Mersea Road in West Mersea on September 23 last year.
Last, 52, entered no plea when he appeared at Colchester Magistrates' Court.
Bus driver Michael Birch was left with life-threatening injuries including a protruding bowel and had to be airlifted to the Royal London Hospital.
He has since made a miraculous recovery.
Last will next appear at Ipswich Crown Court on August 25 for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
He was given unconditional bail.
