A MEDIC has been recognised for her outstanding efforts in the Navy over the past year.

Emma Bull, 22,from Brightlingsea, was praised for giving accident and emergency care round the clock to casualties as part of her operational sea training, despite being only of junior rank.

She has been awarded a Portsmouth Flotilla Award for her efforts.

Emma, who went to Colne Community High School, said: “I am there to keep the ship’s staff healthy, to train the first aid teams and ensure everyone has the right medical attention. I like the fact that anyone can come up and talk to me and that they listen to my advice; it has given me a lot of confidence.”

Emma joined the Navy after taking her A-Levels and was carrying out six weeks of training in preparation of deploying to the Middle East on HMS Daring later this rear.

Commanding Officer of HMS Daring, Commander Phil Dennis said: “MA Bull is thoroughly deserving of the award.

“She operates far beyond her years and experience and is a great asset to the team.”

When not on duty, Emma still lives with her parents Ian and Lesa and her older sister Rebecca in Brightlingsea.
