COLCHESTER MP Will Quince appealed for calm in the wake of the EU Referendum vote.

Mr Quince said he had no regrets in backing the Leave campaign even though financial markets crashed as the result became clear.

Mr Quince said: "Markets don't like uncertainty.

"Ultimately the British people have spoken, that is the point of the referendum.

"I don't have any regrets. I am sure it is right for this country."

He dismissed the suggestions of further referendums for Ireland and Scotland as "opportunist" and said: "We know what their agenda is."

Mr Quince said he was sorry Prime Minister David Cameron had decided to stand down.

He was one of 84 MPs who signed a letter calling on him to stay in the role.

He added: "I think it is terribly sad the Prime Minister has decided to step down.

"There are lots of credible candidates to take on the role. It depends now who comes forward."
