CYCLISTS have come to a halt at a set of cycle path signs, which are facing the wrong way.
A sign at the top of Straight Road, Colchester, directs people left to town centre and right to Shrub End.
Leander Swift, 39, of Gosbecks Road, said: “I go out with my sons on bike rides all the time, the other day there was a cyclist by the sign looking confused, it’s just stupid.
“They have put them up incorrectly and they are not doing a very good job getting people involved in cycling.
“It’s just a waste of money.”
Mrs Swift is concerned people who do not know the area so well could be in danger.
She said: “If people don’t know where they are going, they could end up on the main road towards Maldon, and that would be dangerous.”
Essex County Council has said it is aware of the mistake.
