A COLCHESTER endurance race has been cancelled due to extreme heat.

The PARAS 10 race will not go ahead tomorrow.

It had been moved forward to avoid the midday heat but organisers have now been forced to take the unfortunate decision to cancel the race.

The Colchester Garrison Show will go on.

Steve Cooper, who was organising the PARAS 10 on behalf the charity Support Our Paras, said: "Due to the heightened risk because of the weather the decision has regrettably been taken to cancel PARAS 10 due to safety concerns.

"We are working on a new plan to rearrange the event in the future and will inform people as soon as we are able."

Visitors will still be able to enjoy a vast array of events on Abbey Fields from 11am until 4pm.

These include Active Essex events, performances of The Band of The Queen’s Division supported by The Band of The Royal Corps of Signals and traditional Nepalese dancing.

At 11.50am the Colchester Military Wives’ Choir will perform, and again at 1.10pm.

Other highlights in the afternoon will be a performance by The Parachute Regiment's Red Devils freefall display team at 1.50pm and a combat demonstration by 2 Para at 3pm.
