A SCHOOL’S playground was covered in pennies to raise money for the Nepal earthquake appeal.
School councillors at Myland Primary School, in Mill Road, Colchester, challenged the students to cover part of the playground in 1p and 2p coins.
Every child donated money from their piggy banks for the appeal.
Suzanne Michalkiewicz, Year 6 teacher, said she was thrilled everyone had taken part.
She said: “We have not counted all the coins, but we have raised a substantial amount.
“We are very proud of all the pupils from Myland for their wonderful effort in fundraising.”
The money will be donated to the Nepal earthquake appeal, which was set up several weeks ago after thousands of people died in the quake, with thousands more
