POLICE have arrested and charged a man in connection with a series of burglaries which targeted elderly and vulnerable people.

In one of the incidents an elderly woman woke up and found a man in her home.

He told her he was a police officer and said he was looking for a person who been seen to break in.

Detectives carried out covert patrols in the area of west Clacton where the burglaries were occurring and a man was arrested on Thursday April 30.

Mark Leeder 49, of no fixed address, was charged with four burglaries, two at Lake Avenue, and at Leas Road and Maple Close.

Among items stolen were a 32in TV, purse, bag, cheque book, a mirror and a fireplace.

Leeder was remanded in custody to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court today, Saturday May 2, where he was further remanded in custody until July 6.
