A MAN who was left unconscious after a late-night town centre attack is on track to make a miraculous recovery, his family say.

Jens Wair, 30, from Colchester suffered a bleed on the brain after he was knocked out and hit his head on the ground in St John’s Street. on April 11.

A Colchester man has been charged in connection with the attack and a doctor’s statement read in court days after the incident voiced concerns Jens would have long term brain damage and might even die.

However, the latest Facebook post by his mother, Micheline Wair-Collins suggests he is recovering well.

It said he was free of the effects of being heavily sedated by anaesthetic and breathing on his own at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge.

His family have also said he is walking and talking and could be back in Colchester in a few days.

Mrs Wair-Collins posted: “It looks like Jens will be back in Colchester by end of the week.

“He is checking all your messages himself now and answering calls.

“This week, he is seeing some of his friends. I will post again when he is back home.

“He is almost fully recovered and so we can all rest easy now.”

Jens has been moved to a different ward at Addenbrooke's and has started physiotherapy.

Mrs Wair-Collins’s post adds: “He is recovering really quickly now and we are all thrilled at his progress and how clear his mind is from the effects of the assault.

“He is steady up on his feet and ate like a storm!”

Jens was heavily sedated for eight days after the incident while he was out celebrating his 30th birthday.

After leaving the Dirty Penguin bar, he was knocked unconscious and hit his head on the ground at 2.40am.

He entered no plea when he appeared at court and has been bailed to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court.
