MUM whose daughter fell from 10ft-high monkey bars and broke her leg is campaigning to get them lowered.

Georgie Reynolds’ daughter, Daisy Freeland, will be in a cast for five weeks after her fall at Rowhedge play park.

Daisy, five, who attends St Lawrence School, Rowhedge, was hanging under the bars and fell about 6ft.

Ms Reynolds, 33, said: “It is extremely high. I think it’s silly.

“The number of parks I’ve been to, I’ve never seen them that high.

“I just thought ‘I can’t leave it’.

“If another child falls it might be a lot worse and I don’t want another child getting hurt.”

The playground was built by East Donyland Parish Council in October.

Ms Reynolds started her petition on Friday and already has more than 100 signatures.

A Facebook page set up to raise the issue was also “liked”

more than 100 times in a day.

She said: “We want to give them a chance to lower it to what we think is a safe level.

“All us mums have said it is too high. Not one person has said to me they think they are all right.”

Since the accident, on April 8, the parish council has arranged visits from the company which installed the equipment and Colchester Council’s play area inspector.

The monkey bars are designed for children aged seven-plus, but Ms Reynolds claims this is not made clear at the playground.

Both inspectors deemed the equipment safe and said it met all requirements.

A council spokesman said it was looking to improve signs in the park to warn about appropriate age ratings for each piece of equipment.

She added: “We’ve had feedback from other parents saying howmuch they enjoy the equipment.”
