THE trust which runs Essex’s air ambulance will receive a £250,000 boost.

The Essex and Herts Airs Ambulance Trust is one of several air ambulance charities across the UK to share in £5million from Libor fines.

The cash will be used to develop an effective clinical training facility and to help plan towards a 24/7 service.

Stuart Elms, clinical director of the Essex trust, said: “I’m delighted to learn of this substantial grant as this will enable our clinical team to push forward with innovative training to an even higher standard.”

The Libor scandal of last year arose from banks illegally manipulating interest rates for profit.

Chancellor George Osborne said: “It is absolutely right we use funds from those who demonstrated the worst values to reward those who demonstrate the best, like our hardworking air ambulance crews.”

Last year, the Government also announced VAT relief for air ambulance charities.
