A BID has been made for £10 million of EU funding to upgrade the A120.
Essex County Council is calling on the Secretary of State for Transport to help the county secure the cash.
The money would be spent on proposed safety improvements at Horsley Cross and Little Bentley.
The bid by Essex County Council is supported by a number of partners including the Haven Gateway and Essex Police.
Rodney Bass, cabinet member for highways and transportation said; “What is needed is endorsement to improve the A120 and this funding will help secure its development.
“A proposal has been submitted to the Department for Transport for response and approval.
“This bid is critical to the development of the A120.”
